Roundabout
Youth homelessness charity, and Homewards Sheffield Coalition member Roundabout, has been awarded a Homewards Fund grant to recruit a Temporary Accommodation Navigator, which will provide one to one support to young people under the age of 25, and working with them to create tailored pathways to secure, stable long-term accommodation and support.
This new role has been established in partnership with Sheffield City Council, Guinness Partnership, DWP, Sheffield Futures, University of Sheffield and Citizens Advice Sheffield. This is part of a broader project aiming to strengthen and build local partnerships and use evidenced outcomes to inform future strategies to reduce youth homelessness in Sheffield, with the support of Sheffield City Council.
This work comes under activity 2.1 in the Homewards Sheffield action plan, which aims to “deliver a pilot that will work with young people to find ways to improve their living conditions, whilst reducing local authority spending on temporary accommodation. This will focus on exploring different housing options and support, including family mediation, that could help young people return to their family home where appropriate.”
“We’re incredibly grateful to have been awarded funding from Homewards. The grant we received will enable us to provide dedicated, one-to-one support for young people aged 16–25 living in temporary accommodation in Sheffield. This will help young people move quickly into safe, stable housing. It’s a vital opportunity to create real, lasting change by tackling the root causes of youth homelessness and strengthening the way services work together. This support brings us one step closer to our shared vision: a country where no one has to face homelessness alone.”
