Maindee CommUNITY Primary Trust
Maindee CommUNITY Primary Trust, a charity newly established by Maindee Primary school, have been awarded a Homewards Fund grant to support the implementation and evaluation of their Family Support Checklist with a focus on housing.
They aim to create a sustainable model for the early identification of families that are in unstable or unsuitable accommodation. This approach will relieve pressure on families and also the wider system by preventing crisis point being reached, thereby avoiding trauma and harm to young people and their families.
A key element of this work will be to empower families to meet their own needs by educating them about their rights. The model will have the potential to be replicated by schools across the country.
“We are delighted to receive this funding as we can now carry out work that will know will have a positive impact on our families. This project is a holistic, needs-based support model that aims to identify early and potential issues around unstable and unsuitable accommodation, putting support in place early to prevent family homelessness. This preventative approach focused on the wider needs of families will reduce family homelessness while also limiting the negative effects of temporary accommodation on pupils that find themselves without a suitable home.”
