Eden Gate
Eden Gate, a Christian homelessness charity in Newport, has received a Homewards Fund grant to deliver an accredited construction skills training programme, alongside life skills training, for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
The project is aimed at those accessing Eden Gate’s existing services, or who are connecting with the charity via its Criminal Justice links and will support least 20 people per year over a two-year period to gain qualifications, supporting their progression into employment, apprenticeships, or further education.
The accredited programme will be produced and delivered with key local partners including, Bridgend College, British Gypsum and Persimmon Homes. Training will predominantly be based in the Eden Gate Skills Training Centre (EGSTC), a refurbished commercial space that offers a tailored and friendly environment for training.
The Homewards funding will also enable Eden Gate to employ an on-site Centre Administrator who will be responsible for the development and delivery of the programme.
The pilot is closely aligned with Homewards Newport’s action plan, strengthening training and access to employment, and will be independently evaluated, enabling continued learning and development.
“The Eden Gate Skills Training Centre is a bold new chapter in our mission to support some of Newport’s most marginalised – those experiencing or at risk of homelessness – by offering real opportunities to gain accredited skills in sectors that lead to stable employment and housing. The generous backing from Homeless Link and the Royal Foundation is not only making this vision possible, but through collaborative working, is helping to change lives and shape a more hopeful future for our communities.”
