Homewards Fund Grant

BCP Council & Bournemouth and Poole College

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council, in partnership with Bournemouth and Poole College, has been awarded a Homewards Fund grant to launch a new Post‑14 Curriculum Pilot aimed at helping prevent youth homelessness. By offering earlier, personalised support, the pilot seeks to keep young people engaged in education and reduce the risk of them becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training).

Developed with secondary schools across BCP, the programme introduces an inclusive, skills‑focused curriculum designed for 21st‑century learners. It blends practical, hands‑on learning with strong pastoral support, creating opportunities for students who benefit from a more personalised approach. The aim is to build confidence, strengthen engagement and help young people plan positive next steps.

The pilot will begin with a small cohort during the summer term before expanding in the autumn. Each student will receive a personalised learning plan, ensuring they have tailored guidance as they prepare for post‑16 education, training or employment.

This initiative builds on strong existing collaboration between BCP Council and Bournemouth and Poole College across careers education, employer partnerships, vocational programmes, apprenticeships and SEND pathways. Together, these elements create a more joined‑up offer that supports early intervention and provides clear, experience‑led pathways for young people.

“This grant enables us to develop the ambitious, inclusive and pupil‑centred learning opportunities that young people in our community deserve. With Homewards’ support, we can create a model that truly has the power to change lives.”

– Lisa Linscott,

Director of Education and Skills at BCP Council

“By combining practical learning with strong pastoral support, this programme gives students the confidence they need to progress into further training and employment.”
