Local partners in Newport host football tournament to bring together the sector
On Wednesday 18th September, Homewards Newport in partnership with several local organisations, held a football tournament to encourage collaboration in Newport, inspired by the Homelessness World Cup.
The football tournament was attended by over 70 players made up of staff, volunteers, and clients from services across Newport. The day showcased brilliant collaboration across the sector, and not only helped build relationships, but also worked towards breaking down barriers across the sector, with a host of individuals coming together to play on the pitch.
The event was brought together by a host of partners, including Newport Live who facilitated the tournament and helped make it a great day for all involved. The tournament was made possible by Sponsorship from our Coalition partners University of South Wales, an amazing lunch provided by Tiny Rebel, refreshments from Asda Newport and generous donations for prizes from Dick Lovett, Friars Walk, Asda Newport and Pobl. We are also grateful to the support from those who put in teams for the day: Lighthouse, Newport City Homes, Salvation Army, Housing Justice, Llamau, Eden Gate, MIND, Street Football Wales.
The day was a fantastic example of what can be achieved when we work together.
